Bernice Porter Everette

April 16, 1935 - July 27, 2022

Mrs. Bernice P. Everette, daughter of the late Jennie Mae Porter McQuarters and Mr. White of Murfreesboro, N.C., was called to eternal rest early Wednesday morning on July 27, 2022, at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton. Her life began on April 16, 1935.


Mrs. Everette entered into Holy Matrimony with John Willie Everette on October 13, 1951, and from that union, they were blessed with five children – Willie M. Everette, Phyllis L. Pugh, Wayne L. Everette, Winfred D. Everette (deceased) and Wade M. Everette.


A Hampton Roads resident since 1961, she served at Langley Air Force Base as a Librarian then for many years an Executive Assistant to a prominent Colonel until her retirement in 1994. Bernice was also, a proud recipient of an Associate of Arts degree from Thomas Nelson Community College. Since 1991, it was her passion to be a member of the First Baptist Church family and contribute to the Food Ministry, Women’s Auxiliary, Women’s Choir and the Goodwill Circle; as well as planning family gatherings and interior decoration.


Bernice was one of thirteen children and is survived by two sisters, Pearl Ewing (Lonnie) and Christine Wyatt (Donald); and a brother, Jerome McQuarters, all residents of Baltimore County, Maryland. Bernice and John had 11 grandchildren, Chanda Everett-DeVillasee (Charnier), Donte Everette, Duane Grady, Ebony Everett, Maurice Everette (April), Monica Everette, Tracy Pugh, Wade Everette Jr. (Tashira), Westley Everette (Vickie), Michelle Chandler and LaSena Chandler – and 20+ great-grandchildren and a host of adored nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.


There will be a viewing held at First Baptist Church of Hampton, located at 229 N King St, Hampton, VA 23669, from 9-11 a.m. on Thursday, August 4th. The Homegoing Celebration will start at 11 a.m. in person and will be live streamed www.thefbch.org; then followed by an Interment ceremony at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue in Hampton.


The Everette family invites and will receive family and friends at Beau Brummell Civic & Social Club, 2623 Shell Rd, Hampton, VA 23661 for a repass from 3-5 p.m.
